OU took on the IUPUI Jaguars on Tuesday March 9, 2010. Having split with them earlier in the season they were looking for some revenge. They came out a little slow in the first ten minutes of the game but slowly and surely picked up the pace. They went on to win the championship game 76 to 64. Senior Derrick Nelson put up a career high 36 points while playing with a broken nose and Larry Wright made 16 himself.
The OU Men's Basketball Team is going to the NCAA Basketball Tournament!!!
Location and Dates are TBA for now. I will keep you updated as best as I can.
The OU Men's Basketball team faced IPFW on Monday March 8, 2010. They came out firing and did not give the Mastadon's a chance to do much of anything. They sailed past the 'Dons 71 to 58. Senior Kito Benson had 17 points and 17 boards and sophomore Blake Cushingberry had 23 points with 3 steals. They played an outstanding game and face the winner of IUPUI and ORU tomorrow at 8pm.
The OU women didn't have the score come out in their favor but they fought hard. They faced Western Illinois on Saturday. Senior Melissa Jeltema and sophomore Sharise Calhoun each scored 16 points for the Grizzlies, but Western Illinois came out on top.
The OU men faced UMKC in the quarter finals and played very well. Derrick Nelson was hurt in the first 10 minutes, but came back in the second half with a vengeance scoring 14 points. Keith Benson put up yet another double-double. They will continue on to the semi-finals facing IPFW tonight at 6pm - CST.
I'm Darias Thompson, member of the Student Alumni Association (SAA) and an OU sophomore. My fellow SAA member Abbey Bates and I are headed out at 4:30 a.m. Friday morning to take the 19 hour bus hour ride to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
We can't wait to see the men's and women's teams play in the tournament.
